Selecting your Newborn Photographer
For the first 2 weeks, your baby is in a curled womblike slumber. This is the perfect time to have their images made to capture the freshness of your baby. Your second trimester is a recommended time to begin your search for your baby’s newborn photographer. This will give you time to find an artist who creates the style of images you want of your baby. It will also insure they have availability near your babies due date.
Do they show images that you love?
Look through the images displayed on the photographers website in their newborn image gallery. If they have a blog, read through the newborn related posts. This is where you will begin to see the photographer’s style. While looking through the images, here are a few things to look for, that will help you know that you will still love your images over time.
Do you like the way they pose the babies?
Do they use props or are they a minimalist?
Do you like the colors they use?
You are investing in images that you will want to treasure always!
Loving the style of your photographer will insure you make the perfect choice.
Word of Mouth speaks volumes
Ask friends who have recently had a baby, who they used for their babies images. There is nothing better than having gone through the experience of a newborn session to know what to ask and what to look for in a photographer. If you don’t know anyone, you can Google “newborn photographer near me”. Google wants to be the most trusted provider for your needs, they research extensively the companies they list on page one. Also, Google, Facebook and Yelp are great places to read reviews from families that have recently worked with the photographer.
Visit the studio – Meet the photographer – See the Products
You will be spending at least 2 – 3 hours in their studio. You are trusting this individual with your brand new baby, that alone is worth a visit. A professional newborn photographer will encourage a meeting before your session. It takes specialized newborn training, experience handling brand new babies and patience to mold a newborn safely while keeping them asleep. What if your baby isn’t sleepy or is feeling uncomfortable on the day of your session, an experienced photographer will still be able to create beautiful images for you. A consultation at the studio will allow you ask them about their newborn training and experience.
At your consultation you will be able to see the products available to you, to pick them up and feel the quality of the prints, canvases and albums being offered. If you have specific areas in your home where you will be displaying the images, this is a good time to see the options that could work on your walls. Bring your questions with you!
The newborn stage goes by so quickly and you will need that time to settle in and become a family. Finding your photographer and scheduling your session before your baby is born, will allow you to rest and enjoy meeting the needs of your baby during her first few weeks.
